Los Angeles Salon Waxing Injuries

The number of waxing injuries has been increasing in Los Angeles  over the last few years as more people are getting various body parts waxed.  With this increase in waxings, health care providers, physicians and doctors have recommended some simple guidelines that should be followed by the waxer.

First, upon arriving at the Los Angeles beauty salon, it is important that the beauty salon have a license to operate (operator's license) as a salon.  Additionally, each waxer must be individually licensed by the State of California, and possibly by Los Angeles County.

Once it is time for your waxing, make sure that a new applicator is used - where if the waxist uses a previously used applicator, you may get some diseases or bacteria from the prior clients, especially if some blood was drawn.  To minimize the spread of bodily fluids, make sure that any applicators which are used are sterilized.

Even if a new applicator is used each time, there have been instances where waxing injuries have occurred to eyebrow waxing which has led to conjunctivitis, which is also know as pink-eye.  Pink-eye is a common disease caused by either an allergic reaction or because of a viral or bacterial infection - most likely because the person performing the waxing was not using sterilized instruments or because they failed to wash their hands.

While there are only a few types of waxing injuries which can occur, the damage that they may cause may be permanent.  Our Lawyers have identified the below list of scenarios which are common, and which you should attempt to avoid, if at all possible:

Besides minor injuries relating to the wax, such as allergic reactions, if the wax is too hot when it is applied to a person's skin, it may result in second degree burn injuries to the area where the wax was applied.  Understandably, the people who go in for waxings, understand that the wax must be heated to be applied to the area where the hair is to be removed, but there have been instances where the container holding the wax was negligently turned up too high for that particular type of wax.  When these wax burn injuries occur, you should immediately stop the waxing session, report it to the manager of the salon, and immediately contact a waxing injury attorney.

Even if the wax is applied at a temperature which won't burn the skin, there have been some instances, especially in areas of the body where the skin is softer and less elastic, where when the wax was removed the waxist also removed layers of skin causing an open wound which also would bleed.  When pieces of skin are torn off, especially in the bikini area, it may be very uncomfortable to walk, sit, or perform daily activities because walking around would rub your clothes against the injured area.

There may also be general bleeding in the waxed area, but this is generally expected when the hair follicle is torn or ripped out.  Another issue to be aware of are facial waxing which may result in permanent scarring requiring plastic surgery because of the disfigurement, for which a waxing accident lawyer will assist you receive compensation for your serious injuries.

For those who have been seriously injured while they were being waxed should contact a waxing injury attorney in Los Angeles to determine the extent of their injuries and whether they should seek monetary compensation or whether they should file a small-claims court action against the beauty salon where the waxing accident occurred.
