Around 4 am this morning a big rig crash caused the southbound lanes of the 5 freeway to be shut down. The truck flipped over near the Newhall Pass and was leaking diesel on the road. The California Highway Patrol responded to the SigAlert about 20 minutes after the accident and immediately stopped the flow of traffic. The cause of the Sylmar truck accident is still under investigation and reports of the condition of the driver remain unclear.
In the event that a tractor trailer turns over and begins to leak hazardous chemicals it is important for other drivers to avoid the scene of the Los Angeles truck accident. The driver of the truck may have been injured in this accident, and other drivers could have been seriously hurt in an explosion. Thankfully the CHP responded in a timely manner and they were able to prevent further damages.
