Over 600,000 cribs were recalled by a Barbados-based company today after a 6 month old baby boy was strangled to death in his crib. Other injuries have been reported in relation to this particular crib model. The Dorel Asia cribs were sold by popular stores like Kmart, Wal-Mart, and Sears. Reports show that the drop-sides are defective products and cause a serious threat to the safety of any child who occupies the crib.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission there have been numerous reports and complaints about drop-side cribs. The reports and complaints are all related to a malfunction with the drop side and the mattress. Several reports were made about children sustaining serious injuries such as bruises or scratches. It has been reported that the crib was recalled because the drop-side's could detach form the crib and create a gap in which a child could become trapped and die of suffocation or strangulation.
