| Nursing Home receives AA Citation following patient death |
A Santa Monica nursing home received the most severe citation from the California Department of Public Health. In a press release from the California Advocates for Nursing Home Reform, the state issued a AA citation and a $100,000 fine earlier this year. Arbor View Rehabilitation and Wellness Center is alleged to have caused the death of an 88 year old patient when the gastrostomy tube inserted at the hospital became dislodged. A nurse at the facility reinserted the tube but placed it into her abdominal cavity instead of into her stomach causing excessive fluid to remain in her abdomen. The nursing home failed to follow procedure by not readmitting the patient to the hospital for proper insertion since it had been in place for less than three months.
