Fatal Multi-Vehicle Car Accident on the 210 Freeway
Posted By Los Angeles Personal Injury Attorney

Highways and driving are a way of life for Los Angeles residents. It is not uncommon to hear of a freeway being backed up because of rush hour traffic, or that a car accident on the 101 has caused the 1 hour commute to be a 2 hour commute. But automobile accidents do not always happen during peak traffic times and they are sometime deadly. Early Friday morning, March 27, 2009 a multiple car collision left 2 people dead and 4 seriously injured on the 210 freeway.  The car crash involved a transit bus with no passengers, 2 trucks, and 4 other motor vehicles.

It has not been reported that drugs or alcohol were factors in the tragic car accident or that a motor vehicle malfunction played a role. Not much of the details are actually known and the local Police Department is still investigating the progression of events on the morning of the accident.  It has been generalized that the Interstate 210 auto accident began with two cars that pulled to the side of the road, and then had a domino effect. Two other automobiles got involved when a truck carrying fences lost the fences and they landed on another car. The authorities say that another truck was rear ended by a bus and then the final vehicle was crushed resulting in a total of 7 motor vehicles. The damage to these vehicles included serious structural damage to the frame of the motor vehicles, car fires, and 2 deaths.

One man was thrown from his vehicle and another woman was trapped in her car. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene. Another driver suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to a local hospital.  He probably suffered severe brain damage from the impact of the collision and maybe even spinal cord paralysis. The rest of those at the scene suffered from minor injuries such as cuts and bruises, and surely emotional distress from the accident they just survived and / or witnessed.

Horrific accidents such as the one described above happen all of the time and need immediate legal attention when negligence, drunk driving, reckless driving, and / or other liable factors are involved. If you have been the victim of an auto accident in Southern California which involved multiple cars colliding with one another and resulted in catastrophic injuries suffered by you or a loved one or even the wrongful death of someone that you know you need to contact a Los Angeles Car Accident Attorney for a consultation today!

Car Crash Near I - 10 in Los Angeles Leaves Man Injured
Posted By Los Angeles Personal Injury Attorney

On March 15, 2009 The Los Angeles Lakers were playing a double header at the Staples Center and there was heavy traffic on Interstate 10 (I-10). On that same day Jason Powell, the trainer for the Clippers team, was in a two car collision near the 10 Interstate.  Actually, he was trying to escape the LA traffic on the 10, and attempted to take side streets around the heavy traffic.

While on the surface streets, Powell tried to avoid a head-on collision but was struck on his passenger side, where there was no passneger, by another car that supposedly ran a red light. Other witnesses at the scene testified to the negligent driver's running the red light, even though the negligent driver denied this claim. Powell's automobile spun around as a result of the impact and ended up hitting into a light pole and according to the police report his car was totaled.

The negligent driver walked away with no injuries and Powell suffered moderate injuries and was relieved to know that his seat belt is what saved his life. Although he was not killed in the car crash, Powell suffered from bruises and deep wounds on his chest and hips from the seat belt and bruises on his ribs and abdominal areas caused from the combustion of the air bags. The Los Angeles police at the scene reported that the severity of the car accident could have thrown him from the vehicle and caused more critical injuries such as broken bones, brain damage or brain trauma, spinal injuries, or even death.

Volvo Attempts to Prevent California Car Accidents
Posted By Los Angeles Personal Injury Attorney

How many of us in Los Angeles, and the surrounding areas would like to have a car that prevents drivers from making mistakes on the road? What if there was a car that could not only warn the driver of their reckless driving, but also automatically stop when the risk of an accident exists? Well, just such a car has been designed here in our own state of California. Volvo has designed and manufactured a car that not only promotes safety on the road, but takes matters into its own hands when necessary.  This strategy will therefore help in reducing the number of head trauma, brain injury, broken bones, and other serious injuries resulting from Los Angeles Car Accidents.

Now, we all know that no vehicle can prevent reckless driving all together, but this new age, computerized Volvo seems to be a start, and it's only in the market for about $40,000.00 -$50,000.00. Naturally, the question on all of our minds here in Los Angeles would be, "who can afford that, and of those that can, who would make that kind of investment if they are a cautious driver?"

The answer lies in the fact that most people do not have the option of going out and purchasing a car to do the driving for them. Especially those reckless drivers that we would like to see driving a car such as this one have no interest in driving cautiously. Reckless driving causes fatalities everyday in the state of California whether they are drug or alcohol related, or a distracted driver. Catastrophic injuries in Los Angeles such as severed limbs, becoming paralyzed, suffering brain trauma and brain injury, entering a comatose state, or a wrongful death cannot be prevented by a new age vehicle.

A study done by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) showed that in the year 2007 alone, nearly 4,000 people died as the result of traffic related incidents.  Included in that number, is close to 2,500 deaths that happened in Urban areas; that is to say that nearly 6 people per day in 2007 died in a traffic fatality, some of which most certainly happened in Los Angeles and nearby cities.

Although this new Volvo will aid in traffic safety, some of us in Los Angeles have already been involved in an accident as the result of reckless driving such as drunk driving, speeding, or distracted drivers. Take matters into your own hands; let us fight for traffic safety and yours or your loved ones  rights by contacting one of our Los Angeles Automobile / Car Accident Attorneys for a free consultation today!

Los Angeles Times - Elder Abuse is a Growing Concern
Posted By Los Angeles Personal Injury Attorney
Untitled Document

As each days goes by, every single one of us grows older. With the reality that age comes with each new day, there are natural fears and anxieties that come along with thinking about getting older. Amongst these fears and anxieties should not be the fear of being abused or being taken advantage of because of your age.

In recent years, there have been many accounts of "elder abuse" cases that have surfaced in the news. Here in Los Angeles we can read article after article about cases that hit close to home.  These cases include physical abuse such as improper care, or negligence, of residents in nursing homes, over dose amounts of medications being administered to elderly patients, and even cases involving physical violence or assault and battery.

One case involved the wrongful death of three elderly patients who were given high doses of "calming" medications and overdosed. They died from too much of the medication that they were unable to administer to themselves. The only explanation is negligence by the staff and thus the nursing home staff is being investigated and charged with a wrongful death suit.

In addition to the physical harm caused, there are cases reporting money fraud, embezzlement, and forgery of in home caretakers. Abuse such as these results in the loss of estates, savings, and in some cases has put people in danger of losing their home. One California victim lost nearly $200,000 and her home is in danger of foreclosure.  Along with this kind of abuse, emotional, and mental abuse occurs as the life of the elderly is completely taken over by their care taker, or nursing home facility. The victims can be isolated or kept to minimal interaction with their families and loved ones.

Elderly care is a needed thing in Los Angeles, but one should not have to be concerned with the type of care, or lack of care, that will be provided for themselves, or their loved ones. The elderly have constitutional rights to property, not to mention life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness even in old age.

If you are concerned that you or someone that you love may not be getting proper elder care, or even has been or continues to be a victim of elder abuse, you should contact one of our Los Angeles Elder Abuse Attorneys for a free consultation today at 800-715-4489 and stop the abuse.
